The Refreshing Fruit Experience
Jambu, also known as water apple or rose apple. It has a bell or pear-like shape and typically comes in shades of pale green to deep pink or red. The outer skin is smooth and glossy, while the flesh is crisp and juicy, resembling that of a pear. In terms of texture, Jambu’s flesh is crunchy and water-rich, providing a refreshing bite. The smell is subtly sweet, often described as floral with notes reminiscent of rosewater, adding an enticing aroma to its presentation.
The flavor of Jambu is mildly sweet with a hint of tartness, making it enjoyable for those who prefer less sugary fruits. It is often compared to a blend of apples and guava, with a refreshing aftertaste.
Jambu can be eaten raw, making it a perfect snack. It is often enjoyed fresh, sliced, or whole. It can be added to fruit salads eg. Fruit Rojak, blended into smoothies, or used in desserts. In some cultures, it is also pickled or cooked in savory dishes. Whether eaten alone or incorporated into recipes, Jambu offers a delightful burst of flavor and hydration.
I love to eat slices of jambu, dipped in a sauce made of 3 tablespoons dark soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar and 1-2 birds’ eyes chillies sliced – all combined together in a small sauce bowl.
Do you know that while “Jambu” primarily refers to the fruit, it carries connotations of beauty through its aesthetic and sensory attributes?
