Many Don’t Cook at Home. Why?

Many younger people in the current generation may not be cooking for their families as frequently as how their mothers, grandmothers and aunties did because:

  1. Many have demanding schedules due to work, school, or social commitments, leaving little time for meal preparation but we should not forget that in the past people when to work and did not use PC, software or even AI to speed up work. There was less public transport then and many even cooked foods and brought to work despite having many children and living with extended families.
  2. The availability of ready-to-eat meals, takeout, and delivery services can make cooking seem less convenient and less appealing, especially for those who prioritize quick solutions.
  3. Some younger individuals may not have had the opportunity to learn cooking skills from family members or through formal education, leading to a lack of confidence in the kitchen.
  4. The cost of ingredients can be a barrier, especially for those on a tight budget, making pre-packaged meals more attractive despite being less healthy.
  5. Nuclear families or individuals living alone might prioritize convenience over family meals, reducing the emphasis on home-cooked food.
  6. With the rise of social media, many people may feel pressured to create visually appealing meals, which can be daunting and discourage them from cooking at all.
  7. Dining out or ordering food can be seen as an enjoyable experience or social activity, leading to less focus on cooking at home.
  8. Some individuals may struggle with dietary restrictions or health trends, leading to confusion about what to cook or an overwhelming feeling to meet those needs.
  9. Cooking is sometimes viewed as too complicated or time-consuming, especially when recipes involve many steps or unfamiliar techniques.

Why is it necessary for one to learn cooking? Are home cooked meals healthier than store bought ones? Is it more expensive to cook food for yourself or just order online?
